“As ACT Greens spokesperson for the arts, I’m delighted to see the launch of the National Capital Art Prize. COVID, bushfires and the continual devaluing of the arts at the federal level have given our artists an incredibly tough couple of years. And yet we all understand the key role arts play in our everyday lives. Art heals and connects us and helps us process trauma. Every time I go to a gallery, I see therapy hanging on the wall. We need more art, not less, when things are tough. This major new national art prize launching right here in Canberra is a great opportunity for our creatives.”

Jo Clay MLA, Greens spokesperson for the arts.
